Leeuwarden will be a green-blue municipality in 2028. Water, nature and open space are cherished. The built-up area has hardly increased and there is no longer any 'clutter' with buildings in the city, in the villages and in the countryside. The ecological value of the agricultural area and the significance of water and water management have become much greater. The city of Leeuwarden and the region strengthen each other. You can live urbanly in the center or the suburbs and live rurally in one of the 35 villages or in the countryside. By 2028, the quality of our living environment will meet the principles of broad prosperity. Prosperity is more than money, it is about quality of life for all residents.

In Leeuwarden we look after each other and together we make the municipality of Leeuwarden a nice place to live, work, do business and stay. The municipality, the market and social organizations make their own contribution to this. Although the average income in the region is still relatively low, Fryslân, with Leeuwarden in the lead, has happy and healthy residents who fully participate in society. We also ensure that broad prosperity is given a balanced place in all our neighborhoods and villages.
